The second hand of the clock still has a good 25 minutes of motion before it strikes the noon hour at NOLA Tropical Winery in the Riverwalk Marketplace. But the chic little tasting room, with its stressed-wood display table and elbow-shaped marble bar, fills, empties and refills with a steady stream of clients.
Bourbon Street gave the world delicacies like the hurricane, the hand grenade and the Big Ass Beer. So what does this lane of libations have to offer for its next to-go trick? The Tropical Wine Smoothie. Blend one cup of fruit wine and a half-cup of smoothie mix with ice and there you have it. The combination of wine and a mixed Bourbon Street drink the creation would likely make the owners of Napa Valley vineyards cringe. But in fact, it is quite delicious.
Coming across this place was by pure accident. We were walking through the Riverwalk (a shopping mall/area along the Mississippi River in the French Quarter area) and as we were walking by someone was calling out for a FREE wine tasting. Now you know I couldn’t pass up free! So we entered into the small little shop. Yes, the space was small, but decent. It wasn’t cluttered or crowded so that was a plus.
